The visiting Asian delegation team on ICC appealed the government of Nepal for immediate accession to the ICC Treaty. Issuing a press statement on 27 August, the team has said that immediate accession to the ICC Treaty will facilitate peace and justice and provide opportunities to condolidate rule of law and democracy in Nepal. At a press conference organized in Lalitpur, the delegation informed the media about the meetings and lobby delegations to various political leaders including the Prime Minister. The delegation had a meeting with the Prime Minister Mr. Girija Prasad Koirala on 26 August 2006, and with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Arrairs Mr. KP Sharma Oli and General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (UML) Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal on 25 August 2006. Similiarly the delegation met with the Speaker of the House of Representatives Mr. Subash Nembwang and Former Prime Minister and President of Nepali Congress (Democratic) Mr. Sher Bahadur Deuba on 27 August 2006. In a “Experts Meeting and Delegation on the ICC” jointly organized by FORUM-ASIA and INSEC in Lalitpur on 26 August 2006, the team discussed with parliamentarians, human rights defenders, political leaders, lawyers, government officials, media professionals and civil society representatives on the various issues pertaining to the ICC. Three-day delegation team had arrieved in Kathmandu on 25 August and ended up the visit with a press conference sharing information on the achievements of the delegation on 27 August 2006. The delegation consisted of Dr. Ahmed Ziauddin of Asian Network for the ICC (Belgium), Evelyn Balais Serrano of Coalition for the ICC-Asia (the Philippines), Niza Concepcion of Asian Forum for Human Rights and Development (Thailand), Nazrul Islam and Katherine Aylwin of Odhikar (Bangladesh), and Subodh Raj Pyakurel of INSEC (Nepal).
