ICC Delegation Meets Oli and Nepal


International delegation for the International Criminal Court (ICC) held discussion with Deputy Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and CPN-UML General Secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal in Kathmandu on 25 August.

During the meeting, DPM Oli said that the government was ready to ratify the Rome Statute for ICC. He expressed his commitment to speak on the issue in the parliament session for ratification to respect human rights and end impunity . He assured to work on the issue after the HoR comes up with its decision on army act.

Similarly, UML General Secretary Nepal said that as the directive proposal on ICC was already passed by the HoR, it was the responsibility of the government to move ahead on ratifying the ICC. He also claimed that his party was committed in favor of ICC. He explained the delegation about the changed political situation, transitional phase and peace process and the current challenges.

The international delegation members included Dr. Ahmed Ziauddin from the Asian Network for the ICC (ANICC), Ms. Evelyn Serrano from the Coalition for the ICC-Asia (CICC-Asia), Ms. Niza Concepcion from FORUM-ASIA, Dr. Nazrul Islam and Ms. Katherine Aylwin from Odhikar-Bangladesh. The team was facilitated by INSEC Chairperson Mr. Subodh Raj Pyakurel along with other INSEC staff.

The delegation met DPM Oli at his office and Nepal at his residence at 4:30 PM and 6:30 p.m. respectively.
