A memorandum asking government for ratification of Rome Statute of the ICC handed over to the Speaker of the HoR Subash Nembang on the occasion of International Justice Day on 17 July 2006.
The National Coalition for International Criminal Court (NCICC) and Human Rights Treaty Monitoring Coordination Committee (HRTMCC) along with other human rights organizations handed over the memorandum to the Speaker and organized a sit-in programme at Maitighar Mandala in a bid to put pressure on the government to ratify the Rome Statute.
The memorandum demands launching discussion for its ratification in the parliament and keep a stance against impunity and for government to ratify it as soon as possible.
During the discussion, Speaker Nembang said that all the MPs are supportive and promised to support the demand for ratification even on individual level. He expressed commitment to inform about the memorandum on July 21-session and include the issue of ratification of Rome Statute during discussion on topics of pubic concern.
He also gave his words to hold discussion on ratification of Optional Protocols on CEDAW and CAT among others.
