Process will begin to become a party to Rome Statute soon: DPM and Minister for Foreign Affairs Oli

A task force formed to assess the impact of Nepal becoming a party to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC) presented its report to the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. KP Sharma Oli on 14 December 2006. After receiving the report, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Mr. Oli said that the government would soon begin the process required to become a party to the Statute after a comprehensive study of the report, according to a press statement released by the ministry.

Earlier the government had formed the task force under the Coordination of Secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Mr. Madhav Poudel on 18 October 2006 to submit a report on the provisions to be a state party to the Statute, assessment of impacts and Nepal’s obligations and legal and institutional reforms required after accession to the Statute. The task force comprised representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
